Currently, the fastest growing area of ​​lighting technologies is called fourth generation light. Its energy efficiency is due to the reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in the automotive industry.

Daytime running lights with LED diodes save more than 150 W of power consumption compared to conventional halogen lamps. Each of the two LED modules has a power of only 7 W, so the total power of the daytime running lights is only 14 W. An alternative use of low beams during daytime driving is the consumed power of 110 W main headlights (55 W each). At the same time, other light bulbs are used in the car (for example, lighting devices, parking lights, instrument panel lighting), which in general puts a load on sources of electrical energy at the level of 150-180 W.





Thus, the car consumes about 0,13 liters of fuel for the production of energy produced by a 100-watt receiver when driving for a distance of 100 kilometers. In the case of LED daytime running lights with a total power of 14 W, only 0,02 liters of gasoline or diesel fuel is enough for the same 100 km.

LED DRL lamps not only reduce fuel consumption, but also improve visibility on the road, that is, they provide greater driving safety. The color temperature of a white LED is 6000 K, which is much higher than that of standard halogen and xenon lamps. This increases safety on the road, as it makes the car clearly visible to other road users, both in bright sunlight and in bad weather conditions.

The third important argument for using new light sources is their operational durability. In the case of Philips modules, it is designed for 10 hours or about 000 months of continuous lighting. A passenger car with an average speed of 14 km/h would travel a distance of 50 kilometers if it were not for the fact that, for other reasons, its average duration of operation is still much less. In trucks, replacing diodes every half a million kilometers also means a serious simplification of periodic service work.

For heavy vehicles, Philips has developed a special technical solution called LED Daylight MasterLife 8, available on the European market since September of this year. The Philips Luxeon technology used in it uses the strongest LEDs emitting white light with a temperature of 6000 K, which is almost 2000 K higher than xenon lamps. Savings in fuel consumption are very noticeable on the scale of a large fleet of vehicles.

A device for daylight with LED illumination can also be installed in older models of cars. However, it is necessary to take into account the presence of a permit allowing their use in each specific country. In addition, they must have the RL symbol on the lens, which means daytime running lights. If these requirements are not met, the user of the vehicle may be fined. In addition, such a counterfeit product without homologation usually has low quality and, therefore, durability. This is mainly due to the lack of effective heat transfer. It also happens that fake lamps have incorrect light parameters, which means that they can blind oncoming drivers.
