In order to grow and get a large harvest of eggplants, you need to start with the preparation of seeds for planting.

First, you need to select the seed material, remove all low-quality seeds. To do this, they are poured with water and salt and left. All floating seeds are removed - they will not sprout. The size of the seeds affects the speed of germination. It is better when the seeds are about the same size. Then they germinate and develop in the same way. If the seed material was collected by hand, it is better to select large seeds. But it is easiest to order quality ones seeds by mail.
Eggplants are susceptible to various fungal diseases. To reduce the risk of infection, the seeds are disinfected. They are placed in a solution of potassium permanganate, soaked for 15-20 minutes and washed with water.

Heat treatment will also help to disinfect the seeds. It is necessary to place the seeds in heated water (45-50 degrees), then cool quickly in cold water.

Growth stimulator solutions are used to obtain rapid germination and enrichment of seeds with nutrients. If you do not want to use drugs from the store, you can prepare a solution of wood ash. The seeds are kept in the solution for about a day.

Then the seeds can be hardened. The grains are wrapped in a slightly moistened cotton pad and placed for a day on the shelf of the refrigerator with a temperature of 1-2 degrees. Then for 2 days it is taken out in a warm place and once again put in the cold. Such plants will be more resistant to temperature changes and diseases.

Seeds are soaked in a wet cloth and left to germinate. In the heat, the seeds will germinate in 3-5 days and it will be possible to plant them in the prepared soil.

There are cases when all stages of preparation have been completed, but the seeds do not germinate. There are several reasons for this. In the process of germination, the seeds have grown, and there is a high probability that the roots of the plants will be damaged, then they will lag behind in growth. This may be incorrect planting - if the seeds are buried too deep, they will take much longer to germinate. An inappropriate temperature regime can destroy even the most hardened grains - at a temperature above 40 degrees, the seeds die, at low temperatures, the seeds freeze in the ground. With improper watering, it is also possible not to wait for seedlings. Waterlogged soil makes it difficult for oxygen to access, so a drainage layer should be provided.
