Artistic sauce is an unusual means of creative self-expression

Artistic sauce outwardly resembles sangina or sepia - dry chalk in the form of rounded bars of natural shades. It is also made from clay and pigment, with the addition of chalk and other ingredients. Unlike other graphic materials, you can work with sauce in several techniques: dry, wet, and mixed.

Dry drawing

The dry technique of drawing with sauce is similar to drawing with a bed or sangina. It is preferable to use rough paper so that the pigment has something to "cling to". Will do pastels for drawing on masterica.com.ua, kraft paper, cardboard. The sauce is well layered and shaded. Chalk, if necessary, is sharpened on one side for drawing details.

To correct the drawing, you can use an eraser or "tack".

Finished works should be fixed with fixative, hairspray, or laid with sheets of tracing paper.

This technique distinguishes the sauce from other materials: it is used to make liquid paint. A small amount of chalk is rubbed with a stationery knife, then the resulting crumb is diluted with water. If you add a little water, the resulting slurry can be painted like gouache, and if you increase the amount of water, it will look like watercolor. The sauce dries quickly, it can be layered as many times as needed, and it is also easy to erase with a white eraser. It is better to stock up on several rubber bands of different hardness, because the sauce is removed differently from different types of paper.

The quality and type of paper are of great importance. Watercolor paper or dense Whatman paper is suitable for drawing with artistic sauce in a wet technique. You should not use thin paper, as it is deformed by water, especially with frequent layering of paint.

The sauce on the finished drawing may become dusty and leave traces. This is especially true of tonal details of the work, on which a lot of sauce has been applied. Recommendations for fixation are the same as for the dry method: varnish, tracing paper, fixative.

Mixed method drawing

This method is also interesting because it gives an unusual result. Water-diluted sauce is poured over large areas of the drawing, then contours and details are worked out with chalk. Chalk will give a denser line on dry paper than on dry paper. This is how you can vary the saturation of a line in one drawing, adding depth and detail to it.

For this method, it is worth giving preference to dense rough paper that does not deform due to excess moisture. In addition, dry chalk will leave a brighter line on it than on smooth paper. The work is done perfectly with an eraser. They are fixed in the same way as in the previous methods.

Drawings with sauce look good on both white and colored paper. Dark brown sauce goes perfectly with ivory paper. White, blue, or green sauce looks good on a bright and dark background, and black is beautifully placed on a white base.

You can endlessly experiment with combinations of paper and sauce. This material is suitable for both beginners and professional artists.
