The structure must withstand the effects of the environment, therefore, the use of quality materials and compliance with the installation technology is a mandatory condition. When choosing a roofing material, you should familiarize yourself with the types and characteristics of the proposed finishing options.

Types of sheet roofing

Metal

It is a steel sheet up to 0,5 mm thick with a galvanized coating. For greater reliability, it is covered with a polymer composition, and several layers of varnish are applied. It is mounted at a slope of 15 degrees using self-tapping screws with soft spacers. Externally, it resembles more expensive ceramic tiles.

It is most often used to cover the roofs of private houses and industrial buildings.

The same can be said about composite metal tiles Gerard, which is a steel sheet covered with stone chips.

The main advantages include: a long service life (up to 50 years), ease of installation, high resistance to shocks and loads, and a fairly light weight (not more than 5 kg per 1).

The disadvantages include increased noise, which requires the installation of additional noise insulation.

Profiled sheeting

It is made of steel with a thickness of more than 5 mm. It is made in the form of a trapezoid, a wave and a rectangular shape. Thanks to the polymer coating, it has additional protection. It is used for the installation of household buildings, shops and industrial enterprises. It is arranged at a slope of at least 10 degrees. Self-tapping screws are used as fastening.

The service life is up to 50 years and does not cost much.

Ondulin

Refers to environmentally friendly materials. It is made in rectangular sheets, weighing about 6,5 kg and outwardly resembles ordinary slate. The composition includes cellulose fibers impregnated with bitumen. The top is covered with polymer paint. It is more often used for garages, outbuildings and baths. It is mounted at an angle of 6 degrees, attached to the crate with special nails. The service life is about 40 years.

Low cost can be attributed to advantages. If all installation rules are observed, it can withstand a load of up to 950 kg. It is easy to cut a sheet with a manual hacksaw and no soundproofing device is required.

Disadvantages include flammability at higher temperatures. The surface of the ondulin can be covered with moss and bloom in shady places.

Slate

It has the lowest cost. The service life is about 30-40 years. The composition includes portland cement and asbestos. It is made in the form of waves and weighs up to 15 kg. It is fastened at an angle of 12-60 degrees with nails, using a rubber lining.

It is recommended to lay roofing material under the slate to protect against moisture.

It has a high degree of strength, is non-combustible.

The asbestos contained in the composition is harmful to humans.

Due to its ability to absorb moisture, it is susceptible to moss damage.

Modern types of materials allow you to give the house an attractive look and please the owners with affordable prices.
