The current president of Ukraine insists on the adoption of constitutional changes concerning the country's political course. Poroshenko recently announced that he would discuss with the people's deputies new draft laws aimed at the country's accession to the EU and NATO.

The full version of the conference with the president on December 16 is offered to watch policy news on channel 24. Special attention of journalists was attracted by the words of the president about the upcoming "changes". During the discussion of the issue, he emphasized that the recently adopted amendments to the Basic Law fix the country's course towards membership in the EU and NATO. But this is only a small part of a larger strategy, the main goal of which is joining the Western coalition and exiting the Russian sphere of influence.

"I will relentlessly insist that the Verkhovna Rada support the strategy in February, and I hope that it will become legal in 2019," the politician concluded.

Poroshenko emphasized that the next 5 years will be very important for Ukraine. The country faces 3 tasks at the same time, the well-being of our common future depends on their fulfillment. According to the politician, Ukraine needs:

  1. Reach peace not on the terms of capitulation, but on the basis of national interests.
  2. Overcome the economic crisis caused by military actions and occupation by the Russian Federation, as well as ensure a decent life for every citizen.
  3. Achieve compliance with the criteria necessary for joining the EU and NATO.

The politician admitted that for many his statements will look loud and seem utopian. He put all the "non-believers" in front of the facts: "Many did not believe in the association with Europe and dissuaded me from taking this step. An even greater number of people did not believe in the visa-free regime. Most did not expect tomos. But we prove again and again that everything is possible. The main thing is faith in big goals and faith in Ukraine."

We will find out whether the members of the parliament will support the president's policy already in February - with the opening of the session of the Verkhovna Rada.

Among other things, at the press conference, topics relevant to the country were raised, such as the upcoming receipt of the tomos, the abolition of martial law, and the 2019 elections. "Army, language and faith" became the leading accents of the dialogue: not a single word was heard about plans to improve economic life countries, development of science, technical achievements. One of the invited journalists noted that 70% of citizens consider the current course of Ukraine wrong. The president said that Ukrainians do not trust politicians at all, but real deeds will answer for him, not words.
