Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has offered Republican Senator Lindsey Graham Ukrainian citizenship, amid Graham's calls to change Ukraine's president, Sky News reports.
Zelensky spoke to Sky News reporters at Stansted Airport shortly before departing the UK. In particular, he commented on the words of Donald Trump supporters, including Senator Lindsey Graham and Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson, who suggested that he resign after a dispute with the US President in the White House. Graham said that Zelensky must "either change or leave."
“I can give Lindsey Graham Ukrainian citizenship, and he will become a citizen of our country… And then his voice will begin to gain weight, and I will hear him as a citizen of Ukraine on the topic “Who should be president”. The President of Ukraine will be elected not at Lindsey Graham’s home, but in Ukraine,” Zelensky said.
The president also confirmed that there had been contact between Ukraine and the Trump administration after an interrupted visit to the White House on Friday, but "not at my level."
As a reminder, Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham said that Zelenskyy "behaved terribly" and should change his position or allow someone else to do business with the US. "Zelenskyy has made it impossible to sell the idea to Americans that he is a good investment for Americans," Graham said.
Graham called the Trump-Zelensky dispute a "complete disaster." He also said that he had been to Ukraine and understood the consequences of Putin's actions against Ukraine.
It is noteworthy that Graham previously took a different position. He called for "arming Zelensky" and emphasized that Ukraine would be immediately accepted into NATO if Russia launched a new attack on its territory after the signing of peace.
The senator noted that in the event of a repeated Russian invasion of Ukraine, the invaders will not be able to do without sanctions alone.
"I want Putin to know. If he does this again, Ukraine will immediately join NATO. And if there is another invasion, there will be not only sanctions or other troubles. And our troops will be in Ukraine. The idea is that if we cannot accept them into NATO, then Putin should know that if he tries to invade again, then Ukraine will immediately join NATO," said Lindsey Graham.
Graham also called Ukraine "the richest country in Europe" and is convinced that newly elected US President Donald Trump will be interested in supporting its victory in the war with Russia.
