As Ukrinform reports with reference to Radio Prague International, Czech President Petr Pavel made this statement after political consultations on defense and security issues.
According to him, the Czech Republic is ready to cooperate closely with like-minded countries to strengthen Europe's defense capabilities. Given the change in the US position on a number of important issues, much more attention must be paid to the defense capabilities of both the Czech Republic and the EU and Europe, he noted.
Pavel emphasized that the Czech Republic will continue to support peace efforts for Ukraine, while a peace agreement should not be a reward for the aggressor.
In the current difficult situation, the issue of defense and security is not a matter for one political party, but for the entire Czech Republic, the president added.
RPI recalls that Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced the convening of an extraordinary meeting of parliamentary party leaders on Thursday to discuss security and defense issues.
In response to last week's EU summit, the Czech government agreed to gradually increase defense spending to 3% of GDP by 2030.
