In 2024, Ukrainians scrapped a record number of vehicles – 33,5 thousand units. This was reported by the Institute for Automotive Market Research, citing data from the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
For comparison, in the year before last, 20,7 thousand vehicles were written off, and in 2022 this figure was only 12,8 thousand units.
Among other things, the following were sent for disposal:
- passenger cars – 24 units;
- trucks – 5;
- buses – 953;
- motorcycles – 909;
- trailers – 525 pcs.
The largest number of applications for culling was filed in the Kyiv region – 2. It is immediately followed by the capital – 884, and the third place is taken by the Dnipropetrovsk region – 2.
If we talk about models, the leader here was the legendary “kopeck piece” – the VAZ 2101 car. In total, 1 scrappages of this car were registered last year.
It should be noted that the VAZ 2101 began to be produced back in 1970. The average age of the copies that are still in circulation is 45 years.
In second place in terms of the number of replenishments to scrap metal collection bases is the VAZ 2106 – 1 units, and in third place is the VAZ-645 – 2107. Also, quite unexpectedly, the VAZ-1 and VAZ-278 made it to the top five.
Overall, the average age of scrapped passenger cars was 30 years. In the case of trucks, the figure is 29 years.
