As American scientists reported, there is a direct connection between poor-quality drinking water and the development of cancer.
Specialists conducted an analysis of drinking water contamination in almost 50 public utilities and compared it with data on the number and types of oncology among local residents.
Scientists found 22 different pollutants in the samples in different concentrations, for example, arsenic, radioactive isotopes of radium and strontium, uranium and other substances.
The level of contamination of drinking resources is correlated with an increased risk of cancer. Poor drinking water may be responsible for 100 cases of cancer in these areas.
According to the definition of American government agencies, the development of oncology under normal conditions should occur at the age of about 70 years. If cases of cancer are recorded in younger people, experts have every reason to believe that environmental factors, in particular poor-quality drinking water, are to blame.
- We want people to understand that even water that meets state quality standards can still be dangerous to health, - the study emphasizes.
According to WHO data, cases of cancer from carcinogenic substances in drinking water are from 1 to 4% of the total number.
