American historian and Yale University professor Timothy Snyder said that today's visit to Russia by US President Donald Trump's special representative, Steve Witkoff, will show "whether there really is an American policy." This is stated in the historian's publication in H.

“Ukraine has offered a ceasefire without any conditions. Russia will almost certainly reject this and try to dictate to Witkoff that the US should help Russia achieve colonial control over Ukraine – something Russia could never achieve on its own. Then we will see whether there is actually an American policy aimed at forcing Russia to do the same thing that Ukraine did – agree to a ceasefire – or whether the US is an ally of Russian imperialism and the whole process was just a cover for American submission to Russian demands,” the American historian wrote.

The professor noted that Russia has no right to dictate what happens in Ukraine.

"If Witkoff returns from Russia, supporting Russian demands for Ukrainian sovereignty, we will get an answer. Russia has no right to dictate what happens in Ukraine, just as Ukraine has no right to dictate what happens in Russia. And all the 'root causes' of this war are within Russia, as the Russians themselves constantly remind us," Snyder emphasized.

Recall that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow agrees with the proposals to cease hostilities, but "there are issues" that still need to be discussed. According to Putin, Russia is supposedly in favor of a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine, but there are "nuances", in particular, it concerns the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. He also demands that during the ceasefire Ukraine stop mobilizing and receiving weapons.

Donald Trump later commented on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's statement on the ceasefire. The American leader believes that Putin's statement on the ceasefire was incomplete. Trump noted that it looks promising, but still needs clarification.

As reported, US President Donald Trump's special representative Steve Witkoff will meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin tonight. Yuriy Ushakov noted that the meeting will be held in a closed format. He did not disclose other details of the negotiations.
