Old habits die hard, and the bad habit of using the toilet is one of the most vivid examples of this proverb. People make endless mistakes when going to the toilet, which can turn out to be harmful. One of the most common at first glance seems harmless: smartphone addiction.

“Using a cell phone in the bathroom is one of the least hygienic things you can do. Many people spend time while defecating scrolling through social media pages, scrolling through dating apps or playing online games.”

However, as the online pharmacist explained, moving phone to phone means it can be infected with germs.

"As a result, even after you've washed your hands, you're still carrying some seriously harmful bacteria down the toilet."

Mobile bacteria

Tests have shown that the average cell phone contains 18 times more potentially harmful germs than a toilet flush handle.

An analysis of mobile phones showed that almost a quarter of them were so dirty that they had ten times the allowable level of bacteria. One of the phones that participated in the test had such a high level of bacteria that it could cause its owner a serious upset stomach.

Bacteria do not pose an immediate threat to your health, but elevated levels indicate poor personal hygiene and serve as a breeding ground for other microbes.

Other bacteria were found on the phones, including E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus, which cause food poisoning, but in safe quantities.
