NIU, known for its electric mopeds, has introduced a new micro-electric car, the NIUMM 500. Its main feature is its affordable price of 8 euros and compliance with the European category of light quadricycles L000e, which allows it to be used without a driver's license in some countries, writes Autopilot.
The model still exists in the form of a prototype, but its concept is similar to the already popular Citroen AMI, which has found more than 30 buyers. Electrek.co experts considerthat the NIUMM 500 will occupy its niche as a compact, convenient and all-season urban transport, surpassing mopeds and scooters due to better weather protection.

NIUMM 500 is equipped with electric motor with a power of 10 kW, which allows it to accelerate to 45 km/h. This may not be enough for highways, but for city trips this speed is quite acceptable. The range depends on the battery version: the standard 7 kWh unit provides up to 118 km of range, and with a removable battery the car travels about 60 km. The electric car has a classic steering wheel and two pedals, which makes its control as close as possible to traditional cars. Unlike mopeds and scooters, driving the NIUMM 500 requires a little more experience, especially when parking.

Despite its compact size, the NIUMM 500 offers a car-like level of comfort. It is equipped with electric locks, windows, heating, and also has an optional sunroof and air conditioning. There is a spacious luggage compartment behind the seats, and in front of the passenger seat there is another small storage compartment for small items. Thanks to the protected cabin, this electric car suitable for use in all seasons. It protects the driver and passenger from rain, snow and cold better than motorcycles, and its compact size makes parking much easier than in conventional cars.

The micro-electric car was first presented at the Motorrad exhibition in Dortmund (Germany). However, there is no information about the start of mass production yet. If the NIUMM 500 comes to the market at the stated price, it could become a popular choice for city dwellers who need compact, environmentally friendly and economical transport.
