
З March 4 2025 year Ukrainian license plates on cars will no longer be valid in the Netherlands. According to Ukraine Puls, the country's authorities have introduced new rules that oblige owners of Ukrainian vehicles to undergo mandatory re-registration in accordance with local legislation.
Transitional conditions
The Dutch government has established soft transition period, to provide Ukrainian motorists with the opportunity to complete all necessary formalities in a timely manner. However, after March 4, a phased introduction of fines for violating the new rules began.
To legally operate a car in the Netherlands, Ukrainian car owners are required to:
- to register in the Dutch system and obtain local license plates;
- take out local insurance, since foreign insurance policies are not recognized;
- undergo a technical inspection (APK) according to Dutch standards.
Vehicle registration is carried out via the Dutch RDW service, which checks data exclusively in local insurance databases.
Consequences for car owners
Ukrainian motorists who have not undergone the re-registration procedure, will face sanctions after the deadlineThe authorities emphasize that the goal of these measures is to unify requirements for vehicles and ensure road safety.
