The scandal at the meeting between the US and Ukrainian presidents was orchestrated by Donald Trump with the participation of Vice President J.D. Vance. Their goal was to publicly humiliate Volodymyr Zelensky, for which a live broadcast was allowed. This was stated in a comment to Bild by Thomas Jaeger, a professor of international politics at the University of Cologne.

“Trump and Vance wanted to humiliate Zelensky. That’s why they put on a live broadcast of this spectacle. First they teased him, then they bit him,” he noted.

According to Yeager, Trump is trying to convince Americans that Ukraine is behaving ungratefully and therefore “not worth” further aid. Trump supporters are already enthusiastic about the idea, but the rest of America is so far resisting it, the analyst says.

Yeager noted that Trump is pushing away allies acquired over the past 80 years and generally undermining the dominant position of the United States in international politics. Instead, the American president is moving towards rapprochement with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

“Trump believes he has found a friend in Putin, but he is simply using him,” the expert emphasized.
