Trump administration blocks Ukrainian accounts from accessing satellite images
The US's suspension of intelligence sharing and restrictions on access to satellite imagery could significantly weaken Ukraine's defenses.
President Donald Trump's decision to halt intelligence sharing has hit Ukraine's ability to monitor the battlefield, track large-scale Russian troop movements and potential airstrikes, Business Insider reported, citing comments by Sergei Rakhmanin, a member of the parliamentary committee on national security, defense and intelligence.
The US's suspension of intelligence sharing and restrictions on access to satellite imagery could significantly weaken the country's defenses against Russian missile attacks, and also make it more difficult to track the movements of Russian troops and equipment.
US officials previously confirmed that Washington had stopped sharing intelligence with Kyiv, a decision that came after Trump suspended military aid to Ukraine following a contentious Oval Office meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Trump administration has blocked Ukrainian accounts from accessing satellite imagery. The American company Maxar, which provided the data to Kyiv, confirmed that the decision directly affected its operations.
“Intelligence is one of the most important things that Ukraine has received from the United States,” Rakhmanin said, adding that the “most painful issue” for Kyiv is the loss of access to satellite imagery.
