Toyota halts RAV4 production after fatal accident

Toyota will temporarily suspend RAV4 production in Japan from March 10, 2025, due to a tragic explosion at the plant of supplier Chuo Spring Co. The incident occurred on March 6 in the city of Toyota, where one worker was killed and two others were injured at the enterprise, which supplies chassis springs and other important components.

This event already reminded of a similar incident in 2023, when an explosion led to a halt in production on 13 lines at eight Toyota plants.

While most RAV4s for the US market are made in North America, about 21% of vehicles sold in the US in 2024 were made in Japan, including hybrid versions.

Toyota has not yet commented on how this will affect delivery times, but promises to take measures for compensatory production once work resumes. The situation will be reviewed on March 10.
