In 2024, the European Union purchased 18% more liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia than a year earlier. Between January and November, EU countries spent €6,3 billion on the purchase of the blue fuel.

This is reported by the Deutsche Welle newspaper, citing a report by the Institute for Energy and Financial Analysis (IEEFA).

The largest recipients of Russian LNG in Europe are France, Spain, and Belgium.

In total, last year the EU purchased Russian oil and gas worth 21,9 billion euros, while Ukraine received 18,7 billion euros in financial assistance per year, the British newspaper The Guardian compares the figures.
