US agrees to appoint new Russian ambassador - Russian Foreign Ministry

Alexander Darchiev was appointed Russian Ambassador to the United States.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Darchiev's departure to his place of duty in Washington is expected in the near future.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Russia has received preliminary approval for the appointment of Alexander Darchiev as ambassador to the United States.

It is noted that during consultations between the Russian and US delegations on February 27 in Istanbul, the American side "transferred an official note with an agrement on the appointment of the Director of the North Atlantic Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Darchiev, as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States of America."

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Darchiev's departure to his place of duty in Washington is expected in the near future.

As is known, he worked at the Russian diplomatic mission in Washington for a total of about 10 years. From 1997 to 2002, he held the position of embassy counselor, and from 2005 to 2010, he held the position of ambassador-counselor. From October 2014 to January 2021, Darchiev served as Russia's ambassador to Canada. Since January 2021, he has held the position of director of the North America department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
