The Russian leader's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Donald Trump administration's foreign policy approaches in many aspects coincide with Russia's position. His comments were published by pro-Kremlin journalist Pavel Zarubin.
According to Peskov, Moscow and Washington are seeking to establish dialogue and relations. He emphasized that until recently it was unimaginable that both countries would support a joint UN General Assembly resolution on the war in Ukraine.
“It was really hard to imagine. The new administration is rapidly changing all foreign policy configurations. In many ways, this coincides with our vision,” Peskov noted.
Commenting on possible cooperation between Russia and American companies in the field of rare earth metals and aluminum, he acknowledged that this issue is being considered with a long-term perspective.
He also recalled that some representatives of the Trump administration stated the need to first resolve the conflict in Ukraine and only then talk about economic cooperation.
“I believe that even now we should identify a range of potential topics for interaction, but we should not expect quick results in this area yet,” the Kremlin spokesman concluded.
