Senator Graham prepares bill on new sanctions against Russian banks and energy

"As for Russia, I will be imposing sanctions on their banking sector and energy sector next week to encourage them to come to the negotiating table. If they do not agree to a ceasefire and peace talks with the administration, we should impose hellish sanctions on them and I will introduce legislation on that next week," Graham said in an interview with Fox News Sunday.

At the same time, he referred to the position of US President Trump, who suggested strengthening economic and banking sanctions against Russia.

"I want the Russians to know that I'm not opposed to talking to you about how to end this war, but you will be responsible for this war. And if the Russians don't come to the negotiating table, we have to increase sanctions, as President Trump has noted," the American lawmaker said.

It is noted that he also expressed concern about the US decision to suspend arms supplies and intelligence transfers to Ukraine.

"If we abandon Ukraine, it would be worse than Afghanistan, and I don't think President Trump has any desire to do that," Graham said, adding, "Before there's a ceasefire, I would give the Ukrainians what they need in terms of intelligence and weapons for defense."
