Moldovan presidential administration will decide later when to invite Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov
Maia Sandu previously stated that the credentials were not accepted due to "disparaging statements" by Russian officials.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu did not accept the credentials of Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov, appointed in September 2024. On March 5, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned Moldovan Ambassador Liliane Daria and handed him a note demanding to explain the "reasons for violating" the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Maia Sandu stated in February 2025 that the credentials were not accepted due to "disparaging statements" by Russian officials.
"You cannot invite a representative (of Russia — ed.) to present your credentials when officials in Moscow make such disparaging statements about Moldova. This shows the Kremlin's disrespect for our country, disrespect for sovereignty and territorial integrity," she stressed.
Sandu added that the Moldovan presidential administration will decide later when to invite the ambassador.
Oleg Ozerov has been in Chisinau since October 2024. Before the presentation of credentials, a diplomatic representative is not considered to have officially begun performing his duties.
