Audi is preparing a new generation of the R8 sports coupe in a plug-in hybrid version, which could become the brand's most powerful and fastest road model to date.

The new R8 is expected to debut in late 2027. The new two-seater is expected to be a sibling to the Lamborghini Temerario. Audi's new supercar is expected to share the powertrain, key design elements, electronics and chassis of the Temerario, the successor to the Huracán launched last year.

The Audi R8 will be powered by a 4,0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 from Lamborghini. The engine produces 789 horsepower, while three additional electric motors increase the total output of the hybrid powertrain to 907 horsepower. The latter will be powered by a 3,8 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The basis for the new Audi flagship will be the aluminum frame structure used in the Temerario. A completely new development, it uses 50% fewer components than the previous Huracán and the second-generation R8, as well as 80% fewer welds.
