When stopped by the police, you should not immediately hand over your documents to the inspector. The driver has the right to simply present them for inspection, holding them in his hands. This will help avoid situations where you may receive an unjustified fine due to inattention.
Some inspectors, after receiving documents from a driver, may intentionally delay their inspection. As a result, the driver receives the documents back together with a violation notice, often without even having time to understand the situation.
Instead of handing over documents to a patrol officer, drivers simply have to show their license and vehicle registration. This avoids situations where documents are detained along with fines or other sanctions.
If a driver refuses to provide documents to the patrol officers, this may result in a fine of 425 hryvnias, according to Part 1 of Article 126 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. However, simply refusing to hand over documents to the cops is not a violation.
