After the release of new generations of Toyota Tacoma, Land Cruiser (Prado) and 4Runner, the Japanese automaker focused on the presentation of the updated Hilux. One of the most popular mid-size pickups on the global market is preparing to debut again in a new form.
The new Hilux is rumored to debut in the coming months, and the model should compete with the updated Ford Ranger and the upcoming Nissan Navara (developed on the basis of the Mitsubishi Triton). The first market for the new model will be Thailand, with the model then appearing in Australia and other countries, writes SUV News.
Based on fresh spy shots of the prototype, designer Theottle has presented digital renderings of the 2026 pickup truck. They show significant changes to the front end and a slightly redesigned rear end, while the side profile remains virtually unchanged.
The Hilux is expected to retain the IMV platform, meaning technical updates will be minimal. Under the hood, the proven 2,4-liter and 2,8-liter turbodiesels will remain, the latter of which recently received a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Budget versions will continue to use the 2,7-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine.
However, the lack of radical changes to the design and engines could leave the new Hilux behind competitors such as the Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok, which offer powerful 3,0-liter V6s.
