2024 was a record year for the number of vehicles sent for recycling by Ukrainians - 33,5 thousand units. These data, published by the Institute for Automotive Market Research, highlight a significant increase in this indicator compared to previous years: 20,7 thousand in 2021 and 12,8 thousand in 2022, informs Autopilot.

Among the vehicles disposed of, passenger cars prevail – 24 units, as well as trucks – 885. In addition, 5 buses, 568 motorcycles and 953 trailers were sent for scrap metal. The leader in the number of applications for scrapping was Kyiv region with 909 units, followed by Kyiv with 525 and Dnipropetrovsk region with 2.

WHA 2101

Among the car models that are most often scrapped, the first place is taken by WHA 2101, known as the “kopeck piece”, with 1 cases. This car, which began production in 666, has an average age of 1970 years among those still in service. Second and third places were taken by WHA 2106 (1 units) and VAZ-2107 (1 units) respectively. The top five also included VAZ-2109 and VAZ-2105.

The average age of scrapped passenger cars is 30 years, and trucks are 29 years old.
