Dutch magazine AutoWeek reported, citing insiders, that the production of the Kia Ceed family will end in May this year. At the same time, the ProCeed model has already been discontinued.
At the current level of sales, the Kia Ceed could well last on the assembly line for a couple more years, but Hyundai Motor Group must fit into European CO2 emission standards, so it is cutting the supply of “hydrocarbon” models and replacing them with electric ones. In the second half of this year, instead of the Kia Ceed, production of the compact electric hatchback Kia EV4 will be launched in Europe.
A petrol successor to the Kia Ceed could also be on the way – the Kia K2024 global hatchback, shown in 4, is expected to go into production no earlier than 2026, and the same range of body styles and powertrains won’t be available. The Ceed name is likely to be retired as Kia gradually transitions to alphanumeric model designations, meaning the new Kia compact petrol hatchback for Europe will also be called the K4.
The related Hyundai i30 remains on the assembly line for now, as it underwent its last restyling last year, but it is unlikely to stay on the European market for long and may be left without a successor altogether.
