US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told senior Mexican defense officials that he was prepared to conduct a military operation in the country if the government did not take action to combat drug cartels.

This statement shocked and outraged Mexican representatives, who believe that the head of the Pentagon was referring to "US military actions inside Mexico."
