Von der Leyen welcomes the agreements in Jeddah: EU ready to join future peace talks

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed today's positive talks in Saudi Arabia between the delegations of Ukraine and the United States and stated that the European Union is ready to join future peace talks.

She wrote about this on the social network X, Ukrinform reports.

"We welcome today's news from Jeddah about the US-Ukrainian talks, including the proposal for a ceasefire agreement and the resumption of intelligence sharing and security assistance from the US. This is a positive development that could be a step towards a comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine," the European Commission President wrote.

Von der Leyen added that "now the ball is in Russia's court."

According to her, "the EU is ready, together with its partners, to play its full role in the upcoming peace negotiations."

Following the meeting, the Office of the President of Ukraine issued a joint statement. It states, in particular, that Ukraine has accepted the US proposal for an immediate ceasefire for 30 days.
