They also noted that studies link a lack of the vitamin with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, asthma in children, and some types of cancer.

"Symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are often difficult to detect. They are subtle, many people do not realize that their body feels its deficiency and is exposed to the danger of getting sick," the experts clarified.

According to them, there are several signs of vitamin D deficiency that are good to know.

  • Excessive fatigue, low energy.
  • Irritability and anxiety.
  • Hair loss.
  • New joint pains.
  • Skin inflammation, acne.

Elderly people, overweight people and those who rarely go outside are most at risk of vitamin D deficiency.

In the UK, those in isolation are advised to take it in the form of supplements in an amount of up to 10 mcg per day. Those who do not want to take supplements with vitamin D are advised to monitor its availability in the diet. Foods rich in them are primarily fatty fish (mackerel, herring, salmon). Cheese, egg yolk, mushrooms, beef liver also contain it.
