A swollen and tender abdomen may be a symptom of liver cancer.
Liver cancer is cancer that begins in the cells of the liver, an organ located in the upper right part of the abdomen, below the diaphragm and above the stomach. Cancer that starts in the organ itself is called primary liver cancer. It differs from secondary liver cancer, which develops in another part of the body and spreads to the liver.
Symptoms of liver cancer are often vague and do not appear until the cancer is at an advanced stage, experts note. But a warning sign to watch out for is a swollen or swollen abdomen, which can also be painful.
“Liver cancer can cause abdominal swelling because the liver becomes larger due to the growing cancer, and contributes to swelling on the right side of the abdomen. A bulging belly can also be caused by increased pressure in the liver caused by cancer, which causes blood to pool in the vessels and push fluid from the veins into the abdominal cavity, a process known as ascites, explained Cancer Research UK.
Also, according to them, other symptoms may indicate liver cancer:
- weight loss,
- loss of appetite
- feeling full after a small amount of food,
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes),
- itchy skin
- feeling of extreme fatigue, weakness.
If you notice any of the symptoms listed above, be sure to visit a doctor, British experts shared the recommendation.
