Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about the reasons for the introduction of sanctions by the National Security and Defense Council against five high-ranking officials and businessmen, including Petro Poroshenko and Viktor Medvedchuk. According to him, this is about the withdrawal of billions of hryvnias from Ukraine during the war.

“I am simply surprised that financial monitoring did not show us anything before. I did not see it, and it is difficult to say what happened before me. Now the Security Service and financial monitoring show billions,” Zelensky said during a visit to the Khmelnytskyi NPP.

The President stressed that he had information about money laundering schemes through charitable foundations that allegedly supported the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to him, money from these foundations was redirected to members of political parties.

Zelensky also noted that individuals who have been subject to sanctions have the opportunity to return the withdrawn funds to the state budget. In this case, this money will be directed to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the sanctions will be lifted.
