Green tea, consumed at least three times a week, can prolong people's lives. A large-scale study by Chinese scientists showed that drinking it can give an additional 15 months.
As part of the project, the researchers analyzed the data of more than 100 people who were followed for 000 years. Before the beginning of the observations, they did not have any diseases.
It was established: people who regularly drink green tea showed a significantly reduced risk of developing heart disease - the probability of dying from a heart attack (as well as a stroke) for them was reduced by 20 percent.
"In elderly people who drink green tea, age-related heart problems occurred one and a half years later than in those who did not drink," said the scientists.
Speaking about the drink's ability to prolong life, they stated: this effect is due to the ingredients in green tea leaves. These valuable substances include polyphenols, flavonols, theaflavins, and catechins. They have an anti-inflammatory effect, act as antioxidants in the body.
According to scientists, although other types of tea also contain polyphenols, they do not always ensure their full intake into the body. For example, in black tea, the compounds are quickly fermented, and thus lose most of their beneficial effects.
