Many years ago, agronomists grew garlic weighing more than 150 grams. It is difficult to name the method that experts advise to use in the process of growing onion crops - our grandparents definitely know everything about it. However, modern gardeners are so obsessed with store-bought fertilizers that they have completely forgotten about natural remedies.
How to fertilize garlic in May
As it turns out, it is enough to use a saline solution - add 10 grams of table salt to 100 liters of water and mix everything well. The resulting fertilizer should be watered with garlic beds in mid-May. Sodium chloride repels onion flies and can also accelerate the process of clove formation. Salt increases the osmotic pressure inside the plant cells, which forces the crop to absorb moisture and all nutrients more actively.

The salt-treated plants produced almost twice as many heads as those that were not watered with saline solution. The method came to our territories from Central Asia, where garlic was grown in saline soil as early as the 8th century. Modern peasants in Turkey, for example, use seawater to water the plants, but in temperate latitudes this practice is risky.

To ensure that the use of salt only benefits your future harvest, it is important to consider the following rules:
- Water the crop with saline solution only in dry weather, as rain can wash the salt into deep layers of the soil.
- A week after the manipulation, gypsum should be applied - 200 grams per square meter. This is necessary to neutralize soil salinity.
- For spring varieties of garlic, the salt concentration in the water should be halved.

By the way, you can also use ash infusion as an alternative - 2 cups of ash per 10 liters of water. It contains sodium, which does not harm the soil. Add 1 tablespoon of boron to the solution to increase the keeping quality of the fruit in the future.
