Europe does not need a fake peace - Burbock

An unjust peace will not bring security to the continent, and a just peace can only be achieved by force.

This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock before the start of the Munich Security Conference, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"A false peace – through the heads of Ukrainians and Europeans – would achieve nothing. A false peace will not bring lasting security either to the people of Ukraine or to us in Europe or the United States…. Peace will come only through force. This requires tough long-term security guarantees for Ukraine, a strong NATO, and progress in negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union," the diplomat said.

That is why, according to her, communication with American and international partners at the Munich Security Conference is so important. This forum is more important than ever before. And just as three years ago, when Putin sent his tanks into Kyiv and fundamentally shook European and international security, now the world is once again standing on a “vital axis of security in Europe.”

Europeans and Germans stand firmly by Ukraine's side with military, humanitarian and financial support, Burbock assured. She noted that after Russia's full-scale invasion, Europeans have supported Ukraine with a total of over 134 billion euros, with Germany alone providing almost 44 billion euros.

The German Foreign Minister emphasized that for three years, Ukraine, Europe, and America wanted nothing but peace.

"It has taken three years for Putin to finally sit down at the negotiating table. He started this brutal war, he must finally end it. One thing is clear: the outcome of the negotiations must be a lasting peace solution that protects Ukraine's sovereignty and ensures that Putin's Russia will never again threaten peace in Europe," Burbock said.

She emphasized that Europe is strong, its strength is based on unity.

Burbock also pledged that Europeans would take more responsibility for their own security. Given the existential threat, a greater joint effort is needed to ensure our peace and prosperity, she said.

As reported, the Munich Security Conference will be held on February 14-16. It is attended by almost 60 heads of state and government and over 100 ministers. Ukraine is represented by the president, ministers, politicians and representatives of civil society, as well as journalists.
