In Ukraine, tinting windows in a car is very popular, which allows not only to improve the appearance of the vehicle, but also to make trips in it more comfortable, especially in the summer, when the sun blinds the driver and bakes in the cabin. At the same time, it is worth remembering the restrictions on tinting in force in our country. Violation of the established requirements threatens the driver with a fine.

What tinting is allowed?
DSTU 5727-88 establishes permissible light transmission standards for automobile glass: for windshields – not less than 75%, for side windows – not less than 70%. If the glass is tinted darker, then visibility and overview are severely limited, which poses a threat to traffic safety.

Measurements
The police can prosecute a driver for using illegal tinting, but for this to happen, the fact of the violation must be established. The measurement of light transmission of windows is carried out using a device called a taumeter. It is not cheap, but is sold everywhere in car shops.

How to avoid problems
First of all, you should consider tinting your windows in special workshops that operate legally and measure the level of light transmission during the work. Here you can get a special certificate that will indicate the tinting parameters. If you are stopped by the police for tinting too dark, you should present the document to the police. And although such a certificate will not have official status, it may be enough for the police to withdraw their claims.

In the case of artisanal tinting, when the level of light transmission exceeds the maximum permissible values, it will not be possible to avoid a fine. According to Article 121 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, the fine will be 340 hryvnias. If the driver continues to drive with prohibited tinting, he may be deprived of his license for six months.
