Scientists found out the existence of a connection between the features of life of people with different personality types and their development of cardiovascular diseases in old age.
It is known that cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death in most countries.
The subjects were 496 people (110 men and 386 women) over 55 years of age, who are registered for cardiovascular disease.
Experts used a methodology that takes into account a person's profession, career, hobby, and so on. Hobbies were divided into groups: intellectual, creative, sports, subject (handicrafts, for example).
It turned out that the risk of cardiovascular diseases is increased by almost all types of activity (communication, career pursuits) among pensioners of working and technical specialties (type "man - technology"). Only technical hobbies, needlework, gardening, dacha, repair, etc. have a positive effect.
Physical education and sports have a positive effect on pensioners from the group of employees (person-to-person type), while optimism and needlework have no effect.
Retirees who worked with documents (the "person - sign" type) are not affected by any hobby. They are positively influenced by professional activities, career growth, and the presence of friends and family.
In general, the development and severity of cardiovascular diseases in retirement age are influenced by bad habits, aggressiveness (as a personal trait) and work in the field of "man - technology", while optimism and the presence of specific hobbies reduce risks, the scientists concluded.
