Autumn is a time of active preparation for winter. If you have young seedlings this season, you need to pay special attention to them. The task is to organize proper wintering. And for this, they need to be covered, protected from temperature changes and frost. But one must also take into account the risk that excessive efforts may lead to the seedling being stunted or the growth of buds becoming more active.
When to cover
Do not rush to quickly wrap all the trees on the site in blankets. Covering begins no earlier than the days with consistently sub-zero temperatures begin. Thermometers should not rise higher than +5 degrees.
How to cover trees
Summer residents can hesitate in the method of covering seedlings - completely or partially (only the trunk or together with the crown). First, install additional supports near the plants. Secondly, they still need to be covered together with the crown. First, the trunk is rotated. Please note that the crown should remain covered, but not tightened. They are fixed along the trunk with twine.
What can be used from materials
It can be paper, fabric or agricultural fiber. If there is a risk of damage to the trunk by rodents, make protection from roofing material or construction mesh. Alternatively, you can use raspberry or rosehip branches.
It is also necessary to sprinkle the soil with sawdust. To scare off rodents, it can be treated with creolin - 1 g of the product per 10 liter of water.
Such protection will help the young plant survive the winter and gain strength for growth in the new season.
