As you know, after the first frost, dahlia tubers need to be dug up to be stored until the next season.
However, before placing them in the cellar, having dipped them in paraffin or a clay pot, it is necessary to make sure that the planting material is absolutely healthy.
Details
First, each of the tubers must be carefully examined.
If you notice rusty, brown spots, cut them out without thinking, as such marks can cause the entire tuber to rot.
At the same time, the tool you will use must be sterile - hold the knife or secateurs over the fire, after which you can start the operation.
When all damaged areas have been removed, lower the tubers into water. Those of them that rise to the surface will not survive the winter - you can get rid of them without regret.
Finally, the last step is processing. To destroy possible diseases, immerse dahlias in a solution of potassium permanganate for 20-30 minutes (due to the lack of potassium permanganate, it can be replaced with another fungicide).
Leave the tubers in the sun for 30-40 minutes to dry, and then keep them for another 10 days at room temperature to allow the wounds to stretch and the tubers to harden.
