Tomatoes need proper watering. The development of the plant and its ability to bear fruit depend on it. There is no single universal scheme that would help everyone. Much depends on weather conditions. That is why it is necessary to constantly adjust the amount and frequency of watering.
Basic principles
First of all, you need to understand that each phase of the plant has different needs. The larger the plant, the more water it needs. Take into account the air temperature. If it is dry and hot, water the tomatoes more often and abundantly. And, of course, vice versa. If there is light soil, it is also worth watering more often.
Try to be careful with tomato bushes. Do not allow leaves to fall on them. If overdrying occurs frequently, then there is a high probability of the following problems:
- shedding of flowers and ovaries;
- suspension of plant development;
- premature ripening of small tomatoes.
It is necessary to water the bushes in the morning. The morning moisture will have time to reach the plant, and the excess will dry out. Otherwise, you can expect the development of microorganisms in the water, which will concentrate on the lower surface of the leaves. It is not worth it for the plant to spend the night in this state. This is harmful to it.
Follow the correct watering schedule to ensure your tomatoes develop and grow. If you want large fruits, it would be a shame to see them unripe and small. Assess the weather conditions, adjust the amount of moisture, and everything will be fine.
