Experts from Cancer Research UK have named a deadly disease that can be a symptom of a hoarse voice: laryngeal cancer.

According to experts, if a person begins to notice changes in their voice that do not go away for a long time, there is a possibility that they have cancer.

Such coincidences do not always occur. Most often, hoarseness is a symptom of laryngitis or allergies. The voice can also change if the person strained it a lot the day before (shouted, sang loudly) or was very cold. However, in these cases, the hoarse voice should “go away” within three weeks.

There are several risk factors that increase the chances of developing laryngeal cancer. The first is smoking. The risk is higher the longer a person smokes and the number of cigarettes smoked. Passive smoking also increases the risk of developing cancer.

Secondly, it is alcohol. People who regularly drink strong alcoholic beverages are 6 times more likely to get cancer than others. The combination of strong alcohol and cigarettes is especially dangerous.

Third, it is the human papillomavirus (HPV).

What other symptoms may indicate the development of laryngeal cancer? These include sore throat when swallowing, persistent cough, enlarged lymph nodes. Doctors note that in the early stages of the disease may be asymptomatic.

As previously reported, problems with coordination, sudden weight loss, and a hoarse voice may indicate the development of lung cancer.
