New restrictions for electric scooter drivers may soon appear in Ukraine.

Bill No. 10441 was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, which proposes to introduce several important changes for users of this mode of transport. One of the main innovations is the speed limit for electric scooters to 20 km/h.

This restriction is due to the fact that recently in Ukraine, electric scooters were recognized as mechanical vehicles, which means their registration and the need to obtain a driver's license to drive them.

The authors of this bill believe that if scooters are recognized as mechanical means, it would be appropriate to introduce additional restrictions. In addition to speed limits, the bill proposes to limit the minimum age of electric scooter drivers to 14 years.

It is also planned to ban the transportation of passengers on scooters unless their design allows it. These innovations are aimed at increasing road safety and reducing the risk of accidents involving electric scooters.

This bill has sparked public discussion because, on the one hand, it could improve road safety, and on the other, it could lead to restrictions for users of this mode of transport.
