One of many new models announced by Volvo last week, the EX30 Cross Country is now officially unveiled. It's based on the hugely successful compact electric crossover that racked up 98 sales in 100, its first year on sale.
The all-terrain model has all the benefits of an SUV, including standard four-wheel drive. The new model benefits from a raised suspension and all-terrain tires, but it cannot be called a full-fledged SUV.
Instead, it's seen as an adventure machine built for "weekend explorers." Similar to the petrol-powered Volvo Cross Country, the new EX30 looks a bit more confident with a black finish, new skid plates and exclusive 18-inch wheels set in massive arches. It's better prepared for the beaten track, but not for much more. Compared to the standard model, the rear suspension has been increased by just 18mm, with additional changes to better cope with bumpy terrain with softer damper settings.
Volvo’s first electric Cross Country can travel 425 km on a single charge under the WLTP cycle. According to the EPA, the regular all-wheel drive EX30 with dual motors can travel 407 km on a single charge.
The EX30 CC gets the same 69-kilowatt-hour battery with a usable energy content of 64 kilowatt-hours, powering a pair of electric motors that deliver a total output of 422 hp. With DC charging support, it takes just 10 minutes to top up the battery from 80 to 26 percent.
The price of the new model has not yet been announced, but the all-wheel drive version in Ukraine costs UAH 1 (EUR 743). Obviously, the new equipment will cost more.
