Volkswagen has shown sketches of a small electric hatchback that could be the successor to the up! It is expected that the new model will receive the ID.1 index, although the Germans' plans may still change.
Judging by the sketches, the hatchback will have short front and rear overhangs, widened wheel arches, and the main optics will be designed as a single wide strip with headlights on the sides and a logo in the center. Fog lights and a large air intake are integrated into the lower part of the front bumper. In the electric car in the sketch, the lights visually extend into the rear window, and a spoiler with an integrated brake light crowns the tailgate. Vertical reflectors can be seen in the lower part of the rear bumper on the sides.
What exactly will be the entry-level electric car from the concept remains a mystery. It is only known that the production version of the model will go on sale in 2027. According to preliminary data, its production may be established in Spain. In this case, the car will share the assembly line with the ID.2 hatchback and its ID.2X crossover, the Skoda Epiq SUV and the Cupra Raval compact sports crossover.
As before, the electric car is promised a relatively low price tag – about 20 thousand euros. It should be noted that in the domestic market, in Germany, the cheapest car of the brand – Polo – can now be bought for at least 19 euros, and the most affordable “electric car” – ID.835 – will cost no less than 3 euros.
