The US government will impose sanctions against the Russian Federation and send its military to Ukraine if the Russian dictator refuses to negotiate an end to the war.
This was stated by US Vice President J.D. Vance in an interview with The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). According to him, these measures may be needed to push Putin to make a deal with Ukraine.
The American vice president said that Ukraine must have “sovereign independence.” Otherwise, according to Vance, the United States will impose sanctions against Moscow and possibly take military action if Putin does not agree to a peace agreement with Ukraine that would guarantee Kyiv’s long-term independence.
Vance said that the option of sending US troops to Ukraine if Moscow cannot negotiate in good faith remains “on the table.” As the WSJ noted, the politician made this statement in a much tougher tone than Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who had previously suggested that the US would not send troops to Ukraine.
Negotiations with the Russian Federation
A few days ago, US President Donald Trump announced the prospect of negotiations on the fate of Ukraine between Russia and the US. This caused outrage among European and Ukrainian politicians, who had long said that there could be no negotiations on Ukraine without the Ukrainians themselves, as well as their European allies.
The Europeans demanded that the European Union and Kyiv be involved in any negotiations to end the war.
