Ukraine is planning to introduce fines for drivers whose cars make excessive noise. Violations could result in fines of up to 34 hryvnias and even the loss of a driver’s license. The initiative aims to crack down on drivers who modify their vehicles, including exhaust systems or engines, to increase noise levels. The goal is to reduce the number of noisy cars in cities and improve the quality of life for residents.
However, advocacy expert Mykola Ilchuk notes that Ukraine currently lacks certified devices for measuring vehicle noise levels, which complicates monitoring violations. This may lead to controversial situations when recording violations, which calls into question the effectiveness of the initiative.
In addition, due to martial law in Ukraine, mandatory vehicle inspections have been temporarily suspended, making it difficult to create the necessary evidence base for imposing fines. This raises doubts about the ability of the law to be effectively implemented.
