It is too early to start talking about the potential lifting of European Union sanctions from Russia. First, there must be concrete evidence from Russia of its readiness for peace, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during a press conference following the results of the plenary session "Support Ukraine".

“It is becoming obvious that if Russia demonstrates with facts its true vision and desire to shape this peace, then we can talk about sanctions. First, we need to see that there is really a desire on the part of Russia, in the form of some facts, to obtain peace,” von der Leyen said.

She said that there is currently no long-term peace agreement, so it is too early to talk about the potential lifting of sanctions. The European Commission President added that these talks can only be initiated after “we see some concrete steps from the Russian side.”
