Poland may abolish free medical care for Ukrainian refugees. A corresponding bill has already been submitted to the Sejm, and its initiators insist on changing the current rules for providing medical services to Ukrainian citizens.

The authors of the initiative from the party "Confederation" believe that medical care should be available only to those Ukrainians who pay insurance premiumsThey argue that Polish citizens pay mandatory contributions to receive the same services, while Ukrainians use them on preferential terms.

Who will it affect?

If the law is passed, those who work will suffer the most unofficially and has no health insurance.

For Ukrainians who have official employment, nothing will change – their insurance premiums already cover medical expenses.




However, many refugees choose illegal work due to difficulties with registration or employers' reluctance to conclude official contracts. If free healthcare is abolished, they will either have to pay for treatment themselves or urgently seek official employment opportunities.

What happens next

So far, the bill has only been submitted for consideration, and there is no guarantee that it will be adopted. But already this initiative is causing heated discussions, as it could make life difficult for thousands of Ukrainian refugees.

If the new rules come into effect, Ukrainians in Poland will be forced to review their employment and look for legal work options in order to have access to medical services.
