The German company Rheinmetall has delivered 5 Caracal SUVs to the Defense Forces. As a result, the fleet of these tactical vehicles has increased to 20 units. Another vehicle will be delivered in the near future.
Caracal is an aeromobile SUV based on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class 464 chassis. Vehicles of this type can be transported in the cargo bays or on external suspensions of CH-47F Chinook and CH-53K King Stallion helicopters.
The vehicle has a modular design, adapted for the installation of a wide range of weapons, from machine guns to anti-tank systems. It also provides for the possibility of adding ballistic protection.
The Caracal's power characteristics are provided by a 6-cylinder 183 kW diesel engine, which provides travel at speeds of up to 140 km/h. The 4×4 all-wheel drive design guarantees excellent off-road performance.
Ukraine became the first operator of this equipment. Orders for Caracal have also been placed by the armies of the Netherlands and Germany (the Bundeswehr will begin receiving the vehicles this year).
