“Within the scope of the KISKAÇ-40 operation carried out against FETÖ simultaneously in 31 provinces centered in Antalya, 353 suspects, including 10 civil servants, were detained. It was found that they provided financing to FETÖ through a chain of doner kebab restaurants,” Ali Yerlikaya said.
The minister reports that the chain of doner kebab restaurants operated on a franchise basis, but without any official documents as a partnership based on complete trust. The company's branches were used to provide work and money to people associated with FETÖ, and donations were received from these branches. In order to avoid being traced, the funds were transferred through various entrepreneurs. The company expanded by establishing new branches abroad and thus facilitated the transfer of money from abroad.
The prosecutor's office is investigating the activities of this network.
The FETÖ organization is recognized as a terrorist organization in Turkey. The Turkish authorities accuse FETÖ and its former leader Fethullah Gulen, who died last October while in self-imposed exile in the United States, of organizing the coup on July 15, 2016. 251 people were killed and about 2200 were injured.
