Europe is concerned about the threat that the US and Russia will reach an agreement behind the backs of Europe and Ukraine itself. US President's National Security Advisor Michael Walz dismissed these concerns in an interview with Fox News.
“They may not like a certain sequence that is happening in some of these negotiations. I have to reject any notion that they are not being consulted. They are definitely involved. But ultimately, under President Trump’s leadership, we will end this war,” he assured.
Walz noted that over the past week, representatives of the US administration have held a number of meetings with European leaders. In particular, he recalled the conversation between US Vice President J.D. Vance and the President of Ukraine, as well as the visit of the US Treasury Secretary to Kyiv.
At the same time, Volz evaded a direct answer to the question of why Ukraine is not involved in the negotiations that are to take place between Russian and American officials in Saudi Arabia next week.
Negotiations in Saudi Arabia
As I wrote, a US delegation is due to leave for Saudi Arabia today for talks with Russia. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov there. They will prepare the ground for Trump's upcoming meeting with Putin.
However, according to CNN, the Americans did not officially inform Ukraine about this meeting, and Ukraine will not be present at the negotiating table.
At the same time, it is known that Ukraine is also preparing a visit of its delegation to Saudi Arabia, but this is apparently not related to the US-Russian negotiations there.
